Awesome Dog Cot for the Outdoors

Last winter my wife and I were visiting my in-laws in Florida. We thought it would be a great idea to pack up the car and take the dogs for a day at the dog beach. When we arrived and started walking to the water, we quickly realized that the sand was very hot and there was no shade in sight. It was WAY hotter than we anticipated.

We immediately panicked as our aging Cockapoo started overheating and breathing heavily. Abort! Our beach day quickly went belly up and we were forced to go home with our tails between our legs. (Pun intended) I wish I knew about this outdoor dog cot by Floppy Dawg that day because it would have saved our bacon!

A Quick Overview

Durable Design

Breathable Fabric

Removable Canopy

Maybe Not for Chewers

Not Designed for Rain

Protection from the elements (most of them anyway)

This outdoor dog cot is an amazing buy if you have aging dogs with breathing or overheating issues. The cot is designed with just the right amount of elevation for easy mounting. Air can flow freely underneath for natural cooling while still providing a manageable gap for your dog to get on and off the bed. This cot also keeps your dog off the cold ground or cement in cooler weather. This way you can also keep your pooch safely out of reach from bugs and creepy critters looking for a free ride into your home.

The canopy is perfect during those scorching summer days when your dog needs protection from the sun. You can make a super cooling station for your pup if you use the cot in conjunction with a cooling vest or cooling mat. (Oh look at that. We just happened to have reviewed one of those too! 😊 You can see our recommendation for a cooling mat here) Customers who bought this cot liked the fact that the canopy portion of the bed is easily removable. It makes it easy for when you are on the go or if you want to bring the cot inside your home for indoor use.

Not every shopper was happy with the way it withstood the elements though. Some commented that surprisingly, the canopy does not protect well against rain. Consequently, some people reported that water was able to soak through the canopy and pool up on the cot. In addition, other reviewers warned that the legs are prone to filling up with water and rusting if you leave it outdoors full time. If you plan on leaving your cot on a patio or outdoor space it is probably good practice to bring it in at night. Otherwise, your brand-new cot might rust out or blow away in the wind, like it did for one particular shopper.

Quality Construction & Design

This dog cot is very durable, well made and should last quite some time if the proper care instructions are followed. The oxford fabric provides quality support for your dog’s naptime. The cot is designed with strong, high-quality stitching and strong components. The frame is constructed with light, yet durable steel providing a great mix of durability and light weight mobility for adventures on the road.

Easy to assemble?

Customers reported wildly different experiences when setting up this outdoor dog cot. Some of the reviewers cited such reasons as: vague setup instructions, and the need for WWF wrestler strength. 😊 Overall though the majority of people who purchased this cot had zero issues setting this one up. Most said that it took them under 10 minutes in total, from box to fully assembled.

Picking the right size

It can be a big headache when your Amazon package arrives only to find you picked the wrong size. Oops! Not you have to navigate the website, print labels, repackage and drive to the post office. Hopefully we can save you the trouble with a sizing chart and a few tips from shoppers like you.

Here are some helpful tips from real customers to gauge the right size for your fur baby:

“Medium is perfect for my smaller dog with room to stretch out (18 lbs )and though the large is a bit big for my other dog (30 lbs) she can really stretch out”

“My 50 pound dog fits in the large bed with room to spare.”

“The large is great for my 115lb Shepherd”

Possible issues

If your dog is anything like my Maltipoo Gus, then it likes to hunt and chase anything in the backyard with a pulse. This could possibly be an issue with the design of this canopy. Some customers experienced a problem when their dog would bolt after animals. The “doors” of the covering are small enough that it could obstruct their view and cause your pet to get tangled and possibly injured if they try to give chase too quickly.

What if i don't like it?

First of all, that chance is unlikely. With one of the highest review ratings in its class as well as being Amazon’s Choice for outdoor dog cots, this one is a homerun people! Keeping a high review rating on hundreds and thousands of transactions is no easy task, but Floppy Dawg is killing it with their customer service.  With a great selection of products, speedy responses to customer issues, and easy no-hassle returns, they are becoming a go to hub for fur baby parents.

Final Thoughts ( Jerry Springer Style)

This outdoor dog cot is perfect for dog moms and dads on the go. When you have a dog that is prone to overheating it very tough to bring your best friend to outings. My wife and I would often turn down outdoor social engagements because we knew our Cockapoo couldn’t handle the conditions of camping, park outings, or the beach.
