Comparison Review: Best Dog Steps for Bed

We have a 6 year old Maltipoo and his name is Gus. If your dog is anything like ours, one bed is simply not enough. At home, I have a bed for the car, one at each in-law’s house, and one in just about every room in the house. If you are anything like us, then you also let your dog sleep in your bed from time to time. Getting up and down from a standard sized bed can be a dangerous habit for your dog, especially when it is dark in the middle of the night. So today we are comparing the best pet dog steps for bed time. As always here at dogbed360.com we dive deep on the experiences and reviews of real world shoppers just like you to bring you the inside scoop.

Zinus 2-Step Comfort Pet Stairs

I had to put down our 15-year-old Cockapoo this year. Towards the end of his life, my wife and I had installed stairs on every bed and couch in the house. These pet stairs by Zinus are a great choice for most couches and lower height bed frames. The stairs are constructed from soft materials, yet they provide a sturdy enough surface for most dogs. The nice thing about these stairs is they are light and easy to move around from room to room. I have taken them on road trips and they pack up easy in the car for travelling.

One thing to note with these stairs, depending on how heavy your dog is the foam may sink and give too much when they step on it. Every fur baby is different. If your dog has any prior aversion to stairs, you may find that it takes a consistent training regimen to get them to utilize these dog steps.

Summary: The Zinus 2-Step Comfort Pet Stairs comes in sizes from extra small to extra-large. In our experience it is a great solution for smaller and lighter dogs. It is a good idea to look closely at the dimensions for your chosen size. The height and distance between stairs will work great for some but dogs with smaller legs may find it too challenging to use.

Pros

No assembly required

Light and easy to transport

Cons

May Sink too much for heavier dogs

In case you can’t tell, we know our dog steps. Having an aging pooch will teach you a lot about pet furniture and the mobility of aging dogs. This set of pet stairs by Pet Safe has a lot of great benefits which make it a worthy contender for the best dog steps for bed time. These folding pet steps are designed with built in side rails on a durable hard plastic design. These stairs are made in the USA and are stress and safety tested so you can feel assured your pet won’t be injured just trying to get to bed.  These stairs may provide a sturdier footing if you are unsure that the Zinus 2-Step will be the right decision for your dog. These steps also have the added benefit of being easily folded down flat and stored under the bed or in a closet out of sight.

The majority of people who purchased these steps were very happy with this purchase. Some have pointed out that the felt pieces that come with the steps do not have enough grip for some flooring. If you are willing to do some minor alterations you can make the steps more secure for your pooch. You can easily use some 2 sided tape or other methods for keeping the stairs more secure if you are having issues with the provided felt. Always make sure to test the stability of the pet stairs before encouraging your pet to use them. If the stairs are not sturdy enough it could cause an accident that will make training your dog on the steps more difficult.

Pros

Easy storage

Perfect height for most bed frames

Cons

Incline may be too much for some dogs

Felt may not provide stoppage on some floors

Pet Furniture by Furhaven

Our final recommendation for you today is brought to you by a company called FurHaven. This once again is a different design than the other steps we have recommended. The first thing that we noticed is that the stairs are super easy to assemble and we found it could be done by one person in around 10 minutes. When we listened to the experiences of real life shoppers, most of them were very happy with the stability of these steps, but expressed that they might not be suitable for larger dogs.

The design of these steps is different again than the previous ones we have looked at. The stairs have a unique and attractive design and stands securely on assembly. Although these are some stylish stairs, if your dog is anything like ours you may have trouble training it to use them. These stairs are designed with open gaps between the steps that may make some pets uncomfortable. The angle and pitch of the stairs may also provide a challenge for dogs with smaller legs so make sure to triple check your measurements before getting this one.

(side note) Our Maltipoo learned to use steps with gaps but it took consistent training. On the other hand our Cockapoo had taken a few spills as a pup and couldn’t seem to get comfortable with them.  This structure is also popular with cats so if you don’t watch out your household will be fighting like cats and dogs over these stairs.

Pros

Tall, and easy to assemble

Sturdy doesn’t wobble much if assembled properly

Cons

May be too Steep

Gaps between stairs may be an issue

Summing it all up

Well, that is it. Hopefully we have helped you zero in on the right dog steps for your bed or couch. No matter what steps you choose for your dog, expect to have to train your dog to use them. There are no steps in nature, so your dog has to learn to navigate our human world. This comes easy to some dogs while others may struggle to learn to use the stairs. This is why it is important to make sure that your steps are securely installed before trying to train your dog to use them. We know from experience that any instability or accidents on the stairs can really set you back from your goal of better mobility for your dog. Happy cuddling.
