If you are the type to listen to a good podcast or two, there is a good chance that you have heard about a product called a Casper Mattress. Or maybe you went that next step. You heard the podcast, bought and loved the mattress, and now you are looking at your poor fur baby trying to get comfortable on the tile floor. Surely there is a mattress out there for my dog that is as good as my Casper? Well, my well-rested friend, you are in luck because now Casper makes mattresses for pooches too.
When we looked at the experiences of real shoppers. Real dog parents just like you, we were impressed by how much love this dog bed received. One person from the US named Robin Smith said:
“My 80 lb. Bernedoodle has been using this for a couple of months now and it has still maintain it’s shape. Many other beds flattened out fairly quickly. I have washed it a couple of times and it still looks like new.”
Other reviewers like Robin raved about the durability of the bed as well as how easy it is to clean. Clearly it is the best dog bed in the world. Too good to be true? Maybe. Other fur baby parents were peeved at their purchase, proclaiming the bed to be a complete waste of money. They complained about everything from toxic smells to ripping seams. Amazon reviewers can be like listening to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde sometimes.

Quality construction
When it comes to durability and quality construction Casper makes some bold claims. The Casper sleep team says that the bed is constructed out of a “durable, microfibre blend that is rip resistant.” They also claim that the cover is machine washer safe, “impenetrable”, and slobber resistant. Sounds like it is a dog bed that we could all use! But what do the actual real-life users of this dog bed say?
A Mrs. Suzanne Bridges from Canada says:
“This is one tough dog bed. My mini Schnauzer loves to dig and root in his beds and has destroyed a few beds. Not this bed.”
dP from the United States says:
”…The cover acts amazingly well with wet or dirty dogs: easily washes (I usually do cold water and low temp dry) and has absolutely no stains. I need to buy another one bc these guys are trying to fit both of them on this bed versus the older dog bed that we owned.”
Ok it is settled right? Yay! We can all go home now. Not so fast. Check out a few other choice words some reviewers had to say about the Casper Dog Bed.
An anonymous customer left a review saying the opposite of the Casper Claims:
“Casper says cover is stain resistant but chewing a bone stained it. I washed it and it didn’t come out after 3 washes. Replacement don’t exist / nothing else fits. Going to be looking at other things now “
Tuffie from the United States wrote this about the Casper Dog Bed.
“basically pieces of crap foam you shove into a crap case”
It kind of leaves you scratching your head doesn’t it? You probably thinking: “If I buy this bed for my dog am I going to be ecstatic like the reviewer Suzanne from Canada? Or infuriated like Tuffie from the US?” Individual experiences often don’t tell the entire story. When we look at the overall ratings of this dog bed on Amazon it has an average global rating of 4.3 out of 5 stars, with 70% of the ratings being 5 star. On the whole it seems like more people had a good experience so maybe it is worth a shot. Next we are going to look at:
Is it worth it?
Once again we are going to lean on the experiences of real people who purchased this product to answer this question. Some shoppers thought that this bed did not live up to the Casper name, and dare we say hype? Some of the people we listened to gave a big “NO!” hands down. One reviewer from the UK said that they “wanted to love it”, but the foam in the bed arrived completely deformed and settled very flat. Another said:
“I have spent less money on better dog beds that were much higher quality than this. Shame on Casper.”
So judging from these people’s experiences we would have to say maybe we should pass on this dog bed.
On the other hand, many of the comments we read while researching had headlines like “worth every penny”. Clearly some people think this bed is worth the cost compared to other beds. Another shopper decided that:
“after weighing out the cost of our usual $50-$75 beds that need replacement every 6-12 months, we decided to get another Casper…”
Will it last?
We sure would have an easy job if everyone had only positive things to say, but once again some people say this is ultra durable while others cast doubts. Among the worst user experiences had to do with corner seams not holding up. An unhappy reviewer said:
“I’m very disappointed in the corner seams, however. While the thick material isn’t going to tear easily, the first corner seam ripped within a week.”
Another said that If the corners were reinforced then they would give the bed a five star review, but they were also having issues with corner seams giving out not long after purchase.
On the other hand, different people seemed to have an experience that couldn’t be further than these complaints. A US Reviewer said that after 2 months of abuse from their 50 lb Boxer, the Casper was still as good as new. Many people reported how much better this bed stood up compared to even more expensive beds that they had purchased in the past. Clearly some people have had a great experience with the durability of this one.

Well that is the end of our Casper review. Once again when it comes to the question of durability, quality construction, and value for dollars, the answer varies wildly depending on who you ask. It seems that there are some legitimate issues you could possibly experience with this bed. To be fair that goes for every product. Not everyone is going to love it. The numbers don’t lie though. Most people are in love with their Casper as well as the one for their dog. 🙂 On the whole it seems to be a good choice if you are looking to spoil that fur kid of yours.
